2026 PLANNING GUIDE
Medical travel to China: what to verify before booking.
Compare the full care pathway—not only a headline price. This checklist helps international patients organize questions about hospital scope, records, language support, travel and follow-up.

1. Confirm the exact hospital, campus and department
Hospital names may cover multiple campuses and departments. Ask for the exact location, specialty, appointment type and responsible clinical team before arranging travel. A hospital classification alone is not a quality ranking for a specific procedure.
2. Compare written scope, not a single price
Request an itemized estimate that separates consultations, testing, procedure or treatment charges, medicines, devices, hospital stay, translation and follow-up. Clarify deposits, refund terms and what could change the estimate. Use our China hospital cost estimate checklist for a like-for-like comparison.
3. Prepare portable medical records
Organize recent reports, imaging, pathology, medication lists, allergies and a concise medical timeline. Ask which documents require translation and whether original image files are needed. See the medical-record preparation guide.
4. Verify interpretation and English documentation
Confirm whether interpretation is available during registration, consent, consultations and discharge. Ask whether key reports, prescriptions and follow-up instructions can be provided in English. Interpretation supports communication but does not replace a licensed clinician.
5. Plan visa, payment and travel timing separately
Visa requirements depend on nationality and current government rules. Confirm them through official sources before buying non-refundable travel. Ask the hospital which payment methods it accepts and whether international cards work. Keep lodging and local transport outside the medical estimate unless clearly included.
6. Build a follow-up and emergency plan
Before travel, ask which follow-up visits are required in China, what records will be provided, who handles urgent questions after departure and how care transfers to a clinician at home. Do not assume every procedure fits a short trip.
7. Choose the right coordination level
Some patients only need records organized and questions prepared. Others need appointment coordination, translation planning, local logistics and post-visit documentation. Compare the deliverables and limits of each service rather than purchasing an undefined package.
Start with a non-clinical case review
Global Health Pilot can help organize your questions, records and coordination pathway. We are not a hospital and do not diagnose, recommend treatment or guarantee outcomes.
