How Acupuncture Is Used In Modern Chinese Hospitals
Acupuncture may be offered in some modern Chinese medical settings as supportive care. Whether it is appropriate depends on the patient's condition, medical history, medications, and provider review.
What patients should expect
An acupuncture visit may include symptom questions, medical history, medication review, safety screening, and discussion of the proposed approach. Patients should ask who will perform the procedure, what hygiene practices are used, and what side effects or precautions apply.
When extra caution matters
Patients should disclose anticoagulant use, bleeding disorders, immune conditions, pregnancy, implanted devices, skin infections, recent surgery, and prior reactions. Electro-acupuncture requires additional screening.
Supportive role
Acupuncture should not be presented as a promised solution or a replacement for physician-led care. It may be discussed as one supportive option within an overall TCM recovery plan or symptom-management plan.
